Write to your members of Congress in support of Austin Tice!
Dear Senator _________, Senator _________, and Representative _________,
As your constituent and a current undergraduate student at Georgetown University, I am writing to you about Austin Tice.
Austin is an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He displayed exceptional courage when, during the summer between his second and third year at the Georgetown Law Center in 2012, he went as a freelance journalist to Syria, where he risked his life in order to expose the plight of ordinary people caught in the midst of civil war. He was captured on August 14, 2012, and remains in captivity to this day. Austin’s dedication to those in harm’s way makes me proud to be a Hoya.
I am deeply grateful for the efforts of the White House, the State Department, and Congress thus far to secure his release. But Austin remains the only American journalist still held captive in Syria. As long as Austin remains held against his will, and press freedom continues to be threatened around the world, it is imperative that we speak up about Austin and his story. I hope you will make Austin’s safe return an urgent priority in the months ahead.
Thank you very much.
