The current architects, Sasaki Associates, have issued tentative sketches associated with the new dorm [see below]. These were approved in July’s meeting of the ANC 2E.
July 22nd Update
GUSA sponsored a form on July 17th to allow the architects to respond to student concerns. Over fifty students attended the forum, and all attendees were able to directly question Sasaki Associates on a variety of topics including design, usage of green space, and placement of the form. At the end of the forum, students indicated their approval or disapproval of various stylistic elements. The next forum will occur on August 28th.
GUSA President Nate Tisa expresses his approval of a possible building style.
Since the release of these concept sketches, many students and alumni have felt dissatisfied with the current designs. In response to these concerns, and to fulfill our role as student representatives, GUSA is sponsoring a student forum with the architects on July 17th in the Leavey Program Room.
Nate and Adam are meeting directly with Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Todd Olson and Vice President for Facilities and Planning Robin Morey to discuss the design process, student involvement, and the features of the building. Student feedback has played an integral role in communicating to them that the university can do much better than current plans.
In order to make GUSA most responsive to students’ needs, please provide your feedback on the proposed designs in the form below. We are working closely with the university to make sure students have a voice in the design process, and your comments will be submitted directly to decision makers. Please be courteous, but submit your honest assessment.
