Elections
Executive Elections
Elections for the GUSA Executive are held at the end of February each year, and the winners are inaugurated in March. Candidates for president and vice president run together on a ticket, and the winning ticket is determined using instant run-off voting.
Senate Elections
Elections for the GUSA Senate are held at the beginning of the fall semester. Special elections for vacant seats are usually held during the course of the year. Candidates may run in their district, which is based on place of residence, or at-large. Instant run-off voting is used to determine the winners.
Election Commission
The GUSA Election Commission is an independent body of undergraduate students appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Commission’s job is to fairly administer all elections for GUSA candidates. This includes regularly scheduled elections in the fall and spring as well as special elections as required.
Along with these duties, the Commission also participates in and advises on electoral reform matters. The three Commissioners are tenured, once appointed, as long as they remain undergraduate students. You may contact the Election Commission at electioncommission@georgetown.
