Speaker Spyropoulos and President Tisa with the Senate’s Intellectual Life Committee and Jack Junior!
The GUSA Senate is the legislative arm of the Georgetown University Student Association. Comprised of 27 Senators from districts corresponding to living locations on and off campus, the Senate meets weekly to consider bills brought to the floor by members as well as pressing issues on campus. The Senate is integral in furthering student representation at Georgetown and leverages its influence by passing acts and resolutions geared toward improving student life.
The Senate is headed by a Speaker and Vice Speaker, and has three standing committees, Finance and Appropriations, Intellectual Life, and Student Life. These committees have subcommittees under their purview as well tasked with a specific purview and set of goals. In addition to this, the Committee on Ways and Means is comprised of the chairmen of the three standing committees as well as the Speaker and Vice Speaker of the Senate. Weekly Senate meetings in the Healy Constitution Room are open to the public and include a Public Comment section, offering non-Senators in attendance the opportunity to share their thoughts. Students should feel welcome to join and engage the GUSA Senate for the betterment of Georgetown.
